Summary

They only come when it snows, and nobody ever gets away。

A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah。 Instead, it may be their last stand。 First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned。 Then the more chilling realization: something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting。。。

Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors。 The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight—tooth and nail, bullet and blade—for their lives。 Otherwise, they'll end up like the monsters' other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains。

This book having come out in 2013, two years before the release of the hit game Until Dawn is truly amazing。 I could go on comparing the two as they follow very similar stories。 (Young adults stuck on a snowy mountain being hunted by monsters) but truly this was an amazing thriller and a super fast read。 This book didn’t shy away from detail as it explains events and characters emotions。 It was grim and vivid but it built an atmosphere of pure terror。 Truly worth the read。

I love Ania Ahlborn's work, but this didn't do it for me。 I found the characters insufferable and the storyline predictable。 I love Ania Ahlborn's work, but this didn't do it for me。 I found the characters insufferable and the storyline predictable。 。。。more

Wow。 I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did。

Not badBest book of hers I've read so far。 The male protagonist was a fighter for once。 Not some hair pulling crybaby that couldn't fight his way out of a paperbag and just gave up。 His friend had that distinction。 Not a bad read after all。 Not badBest book of hers I've read so far。 The male protagonist was a fighter for once。 Not some hair pulling crybaby that couldn't fight his way out of a paperbag and just gave up。 His friend had that distinction。 Not a bad read after all。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 It was an easy read, a little predictable but it was nice to read for fun and not deep thought。 I would recommend this book and I will probably reread sometime in the future!

Meh 😑 promising start, the creatures were cool but all the characters, other than Sawyer, were irritating, didn't like this one at all I'm afraid, which was disappointing as I loved Within these walls which I read first。 Meh 😑 promising start, the creatures were cool but all the characters, other than Sawyer, were irritating, didn't like this one at all I'm afraid, which was disappointing as I loved Within these walls which I read first。 。。。more

I liked this wayyyy more than I expected to。 My first creature feature horror and boy was it ANXIETY WRENCHING。 This seriously had be sweating。 So fast paced and scary。 Way more gore than I anticipated。 So good。

Absolutely terrifying book! I had to get up and close my curtains reading it。 The creatures were well described and horrifying, and the woodsy atmosphere was desolate and claustrophobic at the same time。 The characters were a bit flat and there was a little too much real life drama that could have been skipped over, but the terror definitely makes up for it。 The ending made me feel hollow in such a good way, definitely recommend this book。

Solid 3。5 for me。 My second Ahlborn book, and I found it to be significantly scarier than Brother。 They are both BLEAK and gory AF。 I keep thinking about that snow plow guy… What I liked: snow/mountains horror, writing style What I disliked: I actually *needed* some old mountain man to come along and give me some lore on these things and then die violently at their hands。 I know it’s not realistic to lore-dump and more realistic leave us as clueless as our protags, but this is a book about starv Solid 3。5 for me。 My second Ahlborn book, and I found it to be significantly scarier than Brother。 They are both BLEAK and gory AF。 I keep thinking about that snow plow guy… What I liked: snow/mountains horror, writing style What I disliked: I actually *needed* some old mountain man to come along and give me some lore on these things and then die violently at their hands。 I know it’s not realistic to lore-dump and more realistic leave us as clueless as our protags, but this is a book about starving snow monsters so it’s already fantastical!!! 2。5 stars: Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it。Cliched cabin in the woods/creature feature that breaks absolutely no boundaries。 Despite being short, it felt longer than it should thanks to it losing momentum about a third of the way in。 The creatures are described well - but they’re pretty unimaginative “creatures” (stereotypical, but I guess, effective)。No complaints about the technical writing stuff - easy to follow。 The descriptions of gore were pretty nice but unfortunately mostly happening to t 2。5 stars: Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it。Cliched cabin in the woods/creature feature that breaks absolutely no boundaries。 Despite being short, it felt longer than it should thanks to it losing momentum about a third of the way in。 The creatures are described well - but they’re pretty unimaginative “creatures” (stereotypical, but I guess, effective)。No complaints about the technical writing stuff - easy to follow。 The descriptions of gore were pretty nice but unfortunately mostly happening to throw-away characters more to set the scene。Cast of core characters were very basic and annoying and the tag-along one you’re strongly prompted to dislike is the only one I felt anything for。 They seemed much younger mentally then they should have and I was a longing to read the story with characters like the older man at the start of the novel。 He seemed more interesting than the teen drama stuff (despite them being 30)。The pacing became painful towards the end and I just wanted to race through the last quarter or so。 Honestly, the story was just a bunch of overused horror tropes, the lame characters didn’t carry it enough to keep me entertained。 It’s in no way a badly-written book but it was just a bland and cliched thing。 I wouldn’t recommend it but if you wanted to read it, I also wouldn’t tell you not to。 I’m sure they’re heaps of people that want exactly this。 It reads like a B-grade horror film and provides no insight or challenges but still can be enjoyed by what it is。 。。。more

Basic but has high points3。5 stars。 Mild Spoilers follow。I read this in one sitting so the writing is really good and engaging。 Does not shy away from gore and there were some pleasant shocks。 But the storyline was soooo basic。 No twists。 Ending is so familiar。 Idk。 This is my second Ania Ahlborn book but is definitely disappointing compared to Seed。 In short, it's just kinda meh。 Not a waste of time, not special。 Basic but has high points3。5 stars。 Mild Spoilers follow。I read this in one sitting so the writing is really good and engaging。 Does not shy away from gore and there were some pleasant shocks。 But the storyline was soooo basic。 No twists。 Ending is so familiar。 Idk。 This is my second Ania Ahlborn book but is definitely disappointing compared to Seed。 In short, it's just kinda meh。 Not a waste of time, not special。 。。。more

This you like cold-weather isolation + creepy monsters, then this book is for you。 Not my favorite tropes but was curious because I’ve enjoyed other books by this author。

What an intensely shuddering gory monster- horror fest! The Adler Twins, Ryan and Jane are back in their childhood vacation home, a secluded cabin in the icy mountains of Colorado。Before moving to Switzerland, Ryan wants to spend time with his beloved twin and childhood best friend, Sawyer。 Sawyer, with whom Jane has a history, along with Sawyer, we have his girlfriend , April, and Jane's best friend Lauren。 As you can guess, we have some relationship drama between them in the first half of the b What an intensely shuddering gory monster- horror fest! The Adler Twins, Ryan and Jane are back in their childhood vacation home, a secluded cabin in the icy mountains of Colorado。Before moving to Switzerland, Ryan wants to spend time with his beloved twin and childhood best friend, Sawyer。 Sawyer, with whom Jane has a history, along with Sawyer, we have his girlfriend , April, and Jane's best friend Lauren。 As you can guess, we have some relationship drama between them in the first half of the book。 And that was the only part of the book I did not like。 Luckily, the book made up for that with its gore and intense killings and survival scenes。 I loved the snowy atmosphere and how it made the horrifying situation even more chilling! The ending was great and worthy of a horror movie。 I would love to see this adapted as a movie, it will be great! This was my first Ania Ahlborn book and I loved her writing style and the tension she created。 Will be reading more of her backlist in the future and would recommend this to every horror lover for sure :-) 。。。more

4 StarsI really enjoyed this horror and the few minor complaints I had were that the female characters got whiny and obnoxious at times。 April a complete bitch and Jane was just terrible under pressure that she tended to tear up multiple times throughout the book。 Last was the more vague ending。 I would have liked more concrete fully executed ending instead of where I make the logical what and how to the remaining characters。
